Trainer Development Programme The Pensions Regulator 2022-2024

I had the great pleasure and opportunity to create and deliver a long-form professional development programme for the Subject Matter Expert Trainers at The Pensions Regulator 2022-24.

The programme consisted of weekly team meetings, each one focussed on a new aspect of the ADDIE learning cycle, the full trainer/coach toolkit and a range of assignments. It concluded with an assessed presentation exercise and programme evaluation. The project also included leading a full review of the existing training catalogue content, storage and management processes.

Management overview

“Philippa has delivered a thorough and considered programme for the Customer Support Trainers … The tangible benefits have included improvements made to the overall Training offering within CST as well as development of skills for each of the Trainers … It has led to a more robust training offering with more of a focus on continuous improvement. The mindset of the trainers is more catered towards a fuller evaluation and identifying the benefits and purpose … Through 1-1 discussions and performance review, there have been changes in the mindset of trainers around their personal brands.”

“Thank you for all the help with my personal development as a trainer. Your input on our design and delivering has been key to helping us improve our overall library of materials … Train the Trainer was a very helpful overview of the key components of training. Your delivery is always very enthusiastic and encouraging and it was great that we were able to have that together as a team with you and share experiences … I have always been impressed by the way you have taken on tasks for the team … This has been a great help and allowed us to see your knowledge in practice … You have helped me understand what it means to be a trainer and that I know more than I realised!

“Thanks for all your help over the last 18 months … I feel far more of an L&D professional which is as a result of your support, training and encouragement … I found all of your training very relatable and engaging … You have definitely supported the CS Dev trainers to create and embed an effective evaluation model and we are all far more aware of its importance, its relevance and its use now when we design and deliver training… ‘I start with the end in mind’ … I also learned from how you developed and delivered your ideas… I took notes on your own personal delivery … how to confidently project your voice to a wider group and get things on the go … It was interesting and encouraging to see you take a topic which was new to you, scope it out, produce ideas, share them, create a proof of concept and then design something from that … [Future plans] Continuously developing my L&D skills … Continuing to be inquisitive about L&D … doing as much self-learning (& sharing) as I can … Continuously being conscious of the ADDIE cycle and starting with the end in mind … Aiming to be an asset – by taking on more of a ‘consultative’ mind-set.”
